Day 1 – Your today’s highlights

     .

Let’s gain some height this morning! After the pick up at your hotel in Barcelona, we will start our trip sensationally by a hot air balloon flight over the Prades natural park, which is the northern part of the Priorat wine region. A perfect way to understand the topography and the complexity of this terroir and its geological formations.

The trail will take us through the vines of Mas Martinet, one of the 5 best-rated wineries of the Priorat and part of the 5 families that put the region back on the map of the world’s top wines. Chemma will host us and drive around the estate with her 4WD to show their “heroic way of winemaking”. This morning we will make our way through the origins of the Priorat. After lunch we will walk back to Scala Dei, an even smaller village (32 souls registered there… for more than 1000 wine barrels, at least) and there we will visit the famous Scala Dei winery. Paul, our wine connoisseur will explain the history of the cellar which is closely related to the history of the area. Paul, as usual, will be keen to open some bottles and some barrels for us to understand the different flavours and complexities of those grapes. Walking the two kilometers between the cyprus trees back to the hotel there’s no way you won’t fall in love with the stunningly beautiful hills of the Priorat.

wind will push us towards the delta of the Ebro, the longest and biggest river in Spain. An amazing ecosystem where the sea and the flatlands blend infinitely. Salted swamps full of flamingos and myriad different species of birds will be today’s background.

This is where we meet Sofia. A Portuguese biologist who fell in love with these lands some 20 years ago, studying rice culture in this special ecosystem. We will visit her estate, and the bird watching observatory that they have installed there, and of course we will have to taste the famous Paella from the Delta.

Our itinerary today will bring us to a very special place… the dream come true of a French and Spanish couple. Christian Bourdais and Eva Albarran represent the meeting of two worlds that you might think are opposites. The developer and the art producer have, however, come together to create a fine blend of architecture, art and real estate. Against the 100-hectare natural backdrop of the majestic “Los Puertos de Beceite” natural park of the Matarraña region, Solo Houses is a skillful blend of architecture, works of art and landscaped paths designed especially for the site. Standing as the first collection of architecture in Europe, Solo Houses invites holidaymakers and visitors to take on an immersive artistic and architecture journey.
